The Synopsis

Mainstream

Frankie, a bartender seeking love and meaning in her life, discovers both when she meets Andrew Garfield‘s Link, a haughty street philosopher who detests the technological vices of the modern age. When Link is seen lecturing passersby about their consumerism while sporting a mouse costume and holding a painting aloft, he enchants Frankie at the mall. She records him doing it and uploads the video on YouTube, where it gains some little notoriety. Their destinies are intertwined by a fortuitous second encounter with the pound shop prophet.

The Reviews

What they say

"...one of those rare roles ..."

"... Garfield certainly deserves credit for sinking his teeth into one of those rare roles that license an actor to turn up the volume to 11 and beyond. Nicholson, Slater, Jim Carrey, Sam Rockwell ... there’s a little of all of them here, with a convincingly feral streak of LA punk dementia ..."

"...his performance as Link is everything. .."

"Garfield has settled in nicely to a career, where he isn't afraid to take chances and his performance as Link is everything it should be: Damaged, annoying, obnoxious and desperate."

"...Andrew Garfield is a force of nature..."

"Mainstream feels like this bold and heartless statement on the social media age that is terrifyingly accurate. Andrew Garfield is a force of nature; destructive, powerful, unpredictable, and absolutely hypnotic in between."
