STAGE – A Mother’s Song 2000
The play is a retelling of the Japanese folktale “Sansho,” and it takes place in the years following World War III. It chronicles the heroic fight of two young people as they seek to reconcile with their parents after being torn apart by the ruthless authorities. The drama examines the conflict between two opposing ideologies—those who support the ruthless imposition of dictatorial power and those who would rule in a more compassionate manner, recognizing the value of all life—as the world has once again descended into a feudal state. In their quest for salvation, the protagonists in this play are compelled to face significant realities at every turn.
