STAGE – The Overwhelming 2006
It is 1994: When an American family travels to picturesque, little Rwanda, they quickly discover that they are out of their element. Jack Exley, a struggling scholar, creates enemies as he investigates a mystery disappearance. In Kigali’s nightclubs, his teenage son (Andrew Garfield) runs into trouble with adults. And his ambitious new bride embarks on a tour excursion for which not even her upbringing in Detroit can adequately prepare her. Jack then comes across the lists.
The Overwhelming, a riveting tale of a nation on the verge of extermination, had its UK premiere in May 2006 at the National Theatre in London in collaboration with Out of Joint.
